Getting to Know the MMR System in Games – In a game (mainly the MOBA genre ) there is a special mode to determine how far your abilities can develop. The name of this mode is called ranking.
Well, this ranked mode generally has certain points which are often called MMR. The more often you win the match, the faster the MMR points will increase.
That’s just a brief overview of MMR. For more details, please check my explanation below.
What is MMR in Games?
MMR or Match Making Rate in the game is a point that can be obtained when you win a match in ranked mode.
MMR points will continue to increase as you win matches. With a note that the enemies you meet in the game will become increasingly difficult.
The MMR system exists in games that carry a ranked system. Such as DOTA 2, Mobile Legends, Valiant, and many more.
Why MMR Must Exist?
The reason the MMR system exists is none other than so that games can group players according to their abilities. So that matchmaking in the ranked game mode can be balanced.
A simple example, if we have just played a game, small MMR, we will meet new players too.
Meanwhile, if you have been playing for a long time, the MMR is high, you will be met with good players too.
Examples of Games that Implement MMR
As mentioned earlier, the MMR system is generally applied in games with ranked mode. These include Valorant, Mobile Legends, and Dota. Here’s the explanation:
1. DOTA 2
The term MMR is closely related to DOTA 2. You could say, this game is what made the term “MMR” known to many people.
In DOTA 2, we will get MMR points after completing a match. And this point will be based on the role.
For example, if we usually use the Midlaner role, we will be met with midlaner players as well with the equivalent MMR.
2. Mobile Legends
Mobile Legends carries the MMR system as an assessment of player skills in ranked mode.
This game has its own calculations. Where the lower the MMR value, the increase will be faster. Conversely, if the MMR is high, the increase will take longer.
Mobile Legends also has 8 levels of Rank based on the MMR points you have. Starting from Warrior, Elite, Master, Grandmaster, Epic, Legend, Mythic, and highest Mythical Glory.
3. Valuing
Valiant is one of the few FPS games that implement the MMR system. The difference from ordinary games, in Valorant we can’t see the MMR of the players.
The MMR system in Valorant functions to regulate player matchmaking based on skills in ranked and unrated modes, and has no effect on rank.
For example, your Valorant rank is Platinum, but the skill is good, then you will be met with Diamond players, up to Immortal.
How to Increase MMR in Games
The only way to increase MMR in the game is just by developing our skills. Both individually and in terms of cooperation.
Here are some tips to increase MMR:
- Practice more, whether in ranked or classic mode
- Understand the gameplay more deeply, for example memorizing maps, hero abilities, and more
- Learn from pro players, be it through streaming on Twitch or watching videos on Youtube
- When main ranked, make sure the internet connection is stable
The term MMR is often found in games. Especially games that carry ranked mode.
Many people who have just played a game and heard this term, but do not know what it means. Well, hopefully, this explanation can help.
