Difference between ZIP and RAR
In short, ZIP and RAR files have different creation methods, algorithms, compression speeds, features, and creators.
Here are the differences between ZIP and RAR:
1. From File Creation
The easiest to know is from the way the two files are created. RAR can only be created by a special application called WinRAR.
While the ZIP format, you can create without having to use a special program.
The reason is that some operating systems such as Windows and Android also support the ZIP format.
Winrar has a special algorithm made by itself (there is no special term to name the algorithm).
This algorithm has maximum compression on files – files with various extensions. Especially for new output file formats.
While the ZIP format uses an algorithm called Deflate. Data compressed with this algorithm will be lossless.
All data contents will return to their original state when extracted.
3. Compression Limit and Rate
The limit or compression rate between ZIP and RAR formats is also different. The RAR format is capable of compressing files up to a size of 8,589,934,591 GB.
While the ZIP format can only compress files in the size of 2 GB only. Therefore, file ZIP is more likely to be used for the file – the file to a small size.
4. Compress Speed
